As well as its luxurious interior, Ackergill Tower is in one of the finest locations for outdoor adventure – from clay pigeon shooting to caber tossing, golf to RIB riding, all of which can all be enjoyed on our 3,000 acre estate or the surrounding area. We’ve listed a few of our most popular activities below but if there’s an activity that interests you that isn’t mentioned simply ask us about it – we’re more than happy to organise bespoke activities for you.
Activities at Ackergill Tower Hotel
In days gone by the castle ramparts would have been patrolled by archers to protect it from hostile invaders. Today we can set up targets in the castle grounds, hand you a bow and arrows as you try to see who in your party makes the best Robert the Bruce – or Robin Hood.

Clay Pigeon Shooting
It doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner or an expert, own grand walled garden is the perfect location to enjoy a fun afternoon’s shooting. Be prepared to see crossing pairs and long flying birds – ‘pull’!

Mini Highland Games
Try your hand at the caber toss, stone put, hammer throw and sheaf toss in our very own Highland Games! Now is the time to get competitive and challenge your friends in these ancient games!

If you’re good at solving clues and up for a challenge then our exciting Treasure Hunt is the ideal way to spend a brain-teasing, adrenaline-fuelled afternoon. It’s also a great way to explore the estate

Fire Pit Experience
Gather round our fire pit toasting your marshmallows under the stars, enjoying a warming cup of hot chocolate, or even a whisky or two if you fancy! At certain times of the year you may even be treated to the Northern Lights dancing in the sky above.

The dancing flames, a mug of hot chocolate to warm the hands and a dram of malt whisky to put fire into your belly – Scottish experiences don’t come better than this! If you’re lucky, the Northern Lights may put on a magical display in the sky above you.

An enjoyable sport that combines strategy and precision in equal measure – and brings out the competitive streak in your party. If you’ve never played before think snooker on grass, this fun game can be enjoyed by all ages and experience.

John o’ Groats lies on Britain’s northeastern tip, and is popular with tourists as one end of the longest distance between two inhabited British points on the mainland, with Land’s End in Cornwall lying 876 miles to the southwest.

The Old Pulteney. The home of the ‘2014 World’s Best Whiskey’ award. Founded in 1826 by James Henderson at the height of Wick’s celebrated herring boom, the Pulteney Distillery is one of the most northerly Scotch whisky distilleries on the British mainland.
