Directions

  • By car

    The drive to Ackergill Tower is one of the most spectacular in Europe and arguably the best way to start your Highlands adventure.

    Your experience begins in Inverness (car hire is available from Inverness Airport) with the picturesque drive up the A9 to Wick. This route forms part of the world famous North Coast 500 and has plenty of history, heritage, attractions and restaurants to stop at along the way. From the Glenmorangie Distillery which has been producing single Highland malt Scotch whisky since 1843 to Dunrobin Castle which was home to the Earls and later the Dukes of Sutherland is open to tours and has a museum which you can visit. Further along your journey, near to your arrival at Ackergill Tower, you can find the Old Pulteney Distillery which was founded in 1826 and is one of the most northerly Scotch whisky distilleries on the British mainland.

    Parking:
    We have plenty of parking at Ackergill, just follow the mile long sweeping drive towards the tower. If you’d like to drop your bags off first, head to the main entrance and we’ll welcome you in.

  • By air

    Ackergill Tower is just five minutes from Wick John O’ Groats Airport which benefits from inbound flights via Aberdeen and Edinburgh with connections from  Birmingham, Manchester, Cardiff, Southampton and London. For scheduled flights, see Flybe, Logan Air or Eastern Airways for flights.

    London City Airport and Luton along with many other main UK airports fly direct into Inverness, where you can hire a car from the airport and drive by car or travel by coach for just over 100 miles on the coastal road north and admire the incredible scenery along the way.

  • By train

    One of the most convenient ways of getting to Ackergill from London, Birmingham or Manchester is by direct train to Edinburgh from as little as £25 one way (book in advance), where you can get a flight to Wick or Inverness or hire a car and drive the scenic route north to Ackergill Tower from here. Alternatively, carry on your train journey all the way to Wick, with only request stops on the way.

    Travel on the Caledonian Sleeper train from Euston and arrive in Scotland by morning feeling refreshed and ready for your Scottish adventure.

  • By private jet

    Get picked up in our Land Rover directly from the runway at Wick Airport. Flight times vary but the below guide times give an indication:

    Oxford > Wick – Approx 1 hr 10 mins
    London > Wick – Approx 1 hr 30 mins

    We work with a number of private jet companies and are able to assist you with your flight booking should you require.

  • By coach

    Private hire coaches can be booked with us to transport guests from Inverness airport to the Tower or if you are in a smaller group and wish to travel on a public transport coach, there are coaches from Inverness up to Wick and back.

  • By helicopter
